Establishing tradition is a part of black culture. I know many families who do many different things. Christmas breakfasts, summer vacations, xmas eve unwrap, Valentine balloons. The traditions vary as does each family, but one of the things all of our traditions encompass is Food!
So as I began reuniting my family  I wanted us to establish some type of tradition where we could all get together and celebrate all of the blessings that God has bestowed upon us... on a regular basis. So naturally we began  doing "holidays'-and church and for me that wasn't enough. Since we almost all live in the same city I thought that Sunday dinners would be best. Growing up our "family" always had Sunday  dinners. If not at our house at one of our "family" members homes. It was usually our house though and continuing on the tradition was merely an extension of what I know. I wanted the tradition to pass on. I remember how as a child it was just what we did, but as I grew into  adulthood I learned the value that I had overlooked growing up.
Sunday dinner was more than just dinner it was a "weekly" celebration. It was a time for everyone to come together, eat good, catch up and now looking back on it, it was a time to re energize for the coming week and appreciate who we were to each other and what we had as a family. Whose ever house it was, was a loved one, there was always good conversation, alot of positive interaction and input from everyone regarding anything that any of us had gone through throughout the week, be it good or bad.
This was my depiction of family. Everyone loved every day. All business was family business and everyone had everyone's best interest at heart and we all knew it. You knew that everything came from an earnest place.
Of all the days of the week. I looked forward to Sundays, for the sense of belonging, togetherness and family. This is the tradition that has meant the most to me and in me and one that I look forward to passing on to my children and grands. For me that's Sunday's Best!!!
